Well if you are a professional or semi professional you may already own a wireless Lav or Hand Held professional microphone kit. In this case you may only need to add a $30.00Adpater to transform your smartphone into a professionally produced audio/video recording device.
Here is how I use a TRRS 3.5 mm to XLR Audio Adapter and a Smamsung Galaxy Note 3 to create a real solution for audio recordings.
Why would I want to do this?
Anyone who carries a ton of gear with them knows how much easier life would be if they could use a smartphone and a wireless mic to record and even broadcast from anywhere. The true mobility it offers and the time it save in just setting up gear is a true money saver and allows almost anyone to be able to produce real broadcast ready content with little effort.
The part needed are:
A Powered Wireless Microphone Kit. I use the Sennheiser 100 G2 Wireless Microphone Cube with a SM 58 Hand Held Microphone and a Sennheiser 100 G2 Wireless Mobile Base Station Portable adaptive-diversity receiver for camera and ENG use
You will also need a
XLR
Jack to iPhone, iPad2, iPod Touch and Other Compatible Devices for XLR
Microphones to be Plugged In to the iPhone for Professional Recording,
with a 3.5mm Mini Jack for Headphones,
First we will add the Cold Shoe Mount to the UniGrip Pro and then your Smartphone to the UniGrip Pro. Watch Video
I do not use the protective case in this set up as I find it interferes with the TRRS 3.5 mm to XLR Adapters connection to all three audio rings needed for quality audio.

Next I add the Sennheiser Wireless Base Station to the top Cowboy Studio Cold Shoe Mounts and tighten the connections
I make sure to tighten the connection from both the cold shoe and the locking ring on the base station as this make the most solid connection.
Next I connect the 3.5 mm Audio AF to XLR Cable that comes with the Sennheiser Base Station.
Then I connect the TRRS 3.5 mm to XLR Cable to it
Next connect the TRRS 3.5 mm Audio Adapter 3 Ring Pin to the Audio Input Jack of your Smartphone.
Next turn on your wireless system and be sure you have a good signal between your mic and the base station. Then just pull up your camera or your LiveStream Broadcasting App and start recording.
You will also notice a 3.5 mm jack on the TRRS Cable for your headphone video playback. This is only for playback and not for monitoring live. However very handy for checking your audio levels before recording.
You can adjust the levels from the wireless mic transmitter or from the base station AF out Levels.
That's it! You are now ready to Go Live with awesome audio.
